How to Crack Your First Developer Interview

Back to Insights
Interview Meeting

Freshers often struggle to clear technical rounds despite having high CGPA scores. Why? Because there is a massive gap between what is taught in colleges and what the IT industry actually needs.

At G2G Technologies, we have interviewed hundreds of candidates. Here are the practical tips on how to stand out and secure your first job as a software developer.

1. Focus on Logic, Not Just Syntax

Interviewers don't care if you memorized the entire Java library. They care about your problem-solving ability. Can you write logic for the Fibonacci series? Can you reverse a string without using built-in functions? Can you optimize a loop?

Tip: Practice basic algorithms and data structures (Arrays, Strings, Linked Lists) on platforms like LeetCode or HackerRank.

2. Build a Portfolio (GitHub is Your Resume)

Don't just show a paper resume. Show a GitHub link. Show a live website you built. Even a simple calculator app or a To-Do list hosted online proves you can code better than someone who just talks about coding.

3. Master the Basics of Web

Regardless of your role, you must understand how the web works. Learn about HTTP methods (GET/POST), APIs, JSON, and basic Database queries (SQL). These are fundamental to 90% of development jobs.

"At G2G, we hire attitude over aptitude. Skills can be taught, but passion and the willingness to learn cannot."

4. Soft Skills Matter

You might be a great coder, but if you cannot explain your code, you will fail. Practice explaining your final year project clearly. Be honest about what you know and what you don't.
